The C C Pollen Story

“While health may not be everything, without your health nothing else matters.”
 — Royden Brown
“When one stands before a hive of bees, one should say quite solemnly to oneself, ‘By way of the hive the whole cosmos enters man and makes him strong and able.’”
 — Rudolph Steiner

Royden Brown

Royden Brown first heard about Bee Pollen while serving as an Air Force pilot in World War II. From that moment, he was intrigued by it: tiny, nutrient-dense grains of flower pollen, collected and packed into granules by bees for food for the hive. The bioactive nutrients and life-giving power of this remarkable substance captivated him.

Throughout his career as a banker and land developer, Royden searched for information and learned more and more about Bee Pollen. His mission became a quest to find “the best Bee Pollen in the world.” He discovered that most of the Bee Pollen available was imported, heat-treated to retard mold and bacterial growth, and improperly stored without refrigeration. An extensive study showed that 76% of Bee Pollen’s nutrients can be destroyed by such improper storing and handling.

In 1978, C C Pollen emerged from Royden Brown’s quest. He patented the first Bee Pollen collection “trap” and distributed these “pollen traps” to beekeepers across the country, establishing the finest quality Bee Pollen collection network in the nation. Royden insisted on instituting procedures for immediate refrigeration after collection, cold-storing his product from collection to shipment. Thus, the C C Pollen Co. became the acknowledged leader and innovator in the marketing of quality beehive products worldwide.
In 1988, Royden took his product to the equine world. The legendary thoroughbred trainer Charlie Whittingham and Sunday Silence both took Royden Brown's Bee Pollen every day. Sunday Silence won both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness in 1989. Since then, the list of Triple Crown race winners who have used C C Pollen's Bee Pollen for health and energy has grown to be quite lengthy. Royden also expanded his product line to include other gifts of the beehive: Propolis and Royal Jelly.

In the 1980s, Royden became well-known as the supplier of Bee Pollen to then-President Ronald Reagan. He named his first energy bar the President's Bar in honor of Reagan. In the 1990s, Royden gained recognition for providing Senator Tom Harkin with his product Aller-Bee-Gone for the senator's allergies. Harkin's subsequent press conference about Aller-Bee-Gone announced to the world that he had become a proponent of the health product industry.
In the 90s, Harkin co-sponsored the important Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA) legislation, which protects both the health food industry and people's right to access information about health products. Harkin and Brown also collaborated in the fight to establish the Office of Alternative Medicine in the National Institutes of Health,

In the early days, the C C Pollen Co. consisted of a staff of three employees in a corner office at the headquarters of Royden Brown's real estate companies. Today, it has grown to encompass an administrative office in Phoenix, Arizona, as well as a 33,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Glendale, Arizona. CC Pollen is now owned and operated by Royden Brown's son Bruce Brown. The company is also proud of its state-of-the-art Propolis processing plant, which is manufacturing the highest quality propolis and propolis products in the world. CC Pollen is dedicated to presenting modern, high-quality products featuring the most ancient of substances: the gifts of the beehive. Although Royden passed away in 1994, his family and his company continue to honor his memory and mission. "Bee-collected pollen is one of the most primal and necessary forces in nature from which everything else is created," says Bruce Brown. "Without pollination, there would be no regeneration of life. Very few people understand that connection, and perhaps it is our destiny to educate them to that fact."
